Quick facts: The Baku EFW project was iniaiated in Mar 2006 and a formal request was recevied from Ministry of Economic Development in Sep 2006 to proecsss 500,000 tpy of MSW. In Jan 2007, a project MOU was signed between CNIM and MED and the turnkey, €346mn DBO contract signed on 15 Dec 2008. Site prep began in Jun 2009, the foundation stone was laid in Nov 2009, and the plant was opened by President Ilham Aliyev on 19 Dec 2012. The 2-line plant is on a 20ha site in Balakhani settlement and is expected to produce 231,500 MWH/yr. The plant is ownd by state-enterprise Tamiz Shahar JSC.

Quick facts: Burnaby is a three line, 800 tpd WTE plant owned by Metro Vancouver. The project was originally developed by Montenay Inc. The facility went commercial in Mar 1988, selling steam to a nearby paper recycling facility until its closure in 2011. A 25-MW turbogenerator was added in 2003 along with an air-cooled condenser and the plant now sells 100% of the produced electricity.

Quick Facts: This is the only incinerator plant in Kyiv and can consume about one-quarter of the metro area's MSW. Heat output is not fully utilized by 13 connected cusometers and plans are in hand to add a 10-MW steam turbine along with up-to-date pollution control equipment. Another boiler and a 7-MW steam turbine are also planned. Plant throughput at that time will be 350,000 tpy.

Quick Facts: The £120mn La Colette EFW project (left rear) was approved on 9 Jul 2008 and construction got underway in Feb 2009. First waste was burned in Feb 2011 and the project commissioned in May 2011. This was the largest capital project ever for the States of Jersey. An existing WTE plant was closed after the new unit became fully operational.

Quick Facts: Construction of the MSZ-3 project started in Mar 2005 and EVN has contracted to operate the plant until 2019, after which ownership will pass to the City of Moscow. The plant has two lines and a design throughput of 360,000 tpy of municipal waste. The new plant was constructed on the site of a former waste disposal plant which, after operating for more than 20yrs, had to be dismantled almost in its entirety. Final acceptance was on 27 Sep 2007 and it was officially opened on 15 Dec 2007 by Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzkov. The total investment was about €175mn.

Quick Facts: The Domestic Solid Waste Management Centre (DSWMC) near Mesaieed was the first integrated solid waste treatment facility in the Gulf Region. The scheme includes waste sorting and recycling facilities, a landfill, composting plant and a 3-line, 1,500 tpd incineration plant. Flue gas cleaning includes rotary atomiszrs with lime injection, activated carbon dosing, and bag filters on each line. The stack is 80m tall. The works were built on order of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture by the Public Works Authority.

Quick Facts: St-Barthelemy is a 25 km² island north of Guadeloupe with about 7,000 inhabitants. The plant has a single line with an oscillating kiln handling 36 tpd of MSW, the island's entire output. It is coupled to a thermal seawater desalination plant run by UCDEM that is capable of supplying up to 1,350m³ per day of potable water, meeting local requirements even at the height of the tourist season.
