Quick Facts: The Bernburg WTE plant is a JV of Solvay Infra and waste company Tönsmeier. Development began at the end of 2006 and there were several delays due to legal challenges. Construction started in Mar 2008 and trial runs began in Feb 2010. The Bernburg plant has three lines with steam supplied to the Solvay Soda Ash works. The total investment was €200mn.

Quick Facts: This was built as a joint project of E.ON Energy from Waste AG and Städtische Werke Magdeburg (SWM). Lines 1&2 were commissioned in 2005 and lines 3&4 in 200. Total throughput is about 650,000 tpyof MSW making this one of the larger WTE plants in Germany. Annual production from the Rothensee plant is about 350 GWt of heat and 370 GWh of electricity

Quick Facts: In 2003, H&R ChemPharma GmbH turned over energy operations at its Salzbergen lubricant refinery to RWE company SRS EcoTherm. The WTE plant was built to repower existing steam sets and provide thermal energy for the industrial plant. About 360,000 tpy of steam is sent to the refinery through an 800m steam pipe. Waste throughput is about 120,000 tpy and the plant cost €50mn.
