Quick facts: In Aug 2014, Samoa’s first wind project was commissioned at Vailoa, Aleipata, on Upolu Island. This has two 55m tall WTGs. The wind farm was funded by the UAE’s Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and Masdar was a techincal consultant.

Quick facts: Butoni is in a area of low to moderate wind spedds, averaging 5.46 m/s. The site is a narrow, north-south ridge about 5km from Sigatoka town. The WTGs can be lowered and re-erected quickly in case of cyclones. The FJ$34mn plant is expected to save FEA about FJ$3mn/yr and reduce diesel consumption by about 2,5000mt/yr.
