Quick facts: Suzlon has installed over 600 MW on 340ha of forest and cropland in Sakhri takula in the Dhule-Nandurbar region of northwestern Maharashtra. Plans to continue expansion to around 1 GW of capacity have been stalled by local protests alleging legal issues with land procurement and compensation for local landowners. The company has installed a mix of 600-, 1,250-, and 1,500-kW machines.

Kutubia Island

Quick facts: This wind battery hybrid plant is installed at Taboler Char area of the Ali Akber Dell Union Parisahd on Kutubdia Island, Cox’s Bazar. The WTGs charge 1,000, 200AH batteries. The 11KV output is transmitted 8km to a project control room at Barghop Bazar. The project was conceived in 2006 and an international tender was floated by BPDB. The installation contract was signed in Mar 2007. In Nov 2007, Super Cyclone Sidr crossed the coastal areas of Bangladesh and the 15ft tidal surge covered the project area and damaged equipment and supplies. The project was officially commissioned on 30 Mar 2008 as the largest wind energy/battery hybrid power system in the world.
