Quick facts: In Nov 2009, GKM awarded Alstom BTG contracts worth approximately €450mn for GKM Unit 9. The new USC unit was originally scheduled for service in 2013. In the event, the €1.3bn project ran into financing issues and is also equipped with some T24 steel internals. Although the foundation stone was laid to schedule in Jun 2010, the unit was not officially inaugurated unitl 22 Sep 2015. Lahmeyer International was technical advisor to the lenders including Commerzbank AG and KfW IPEX-Bank GmbH.This USC unit is located next to the existing units 7 and 8 at the site on the River Rhine. Thermal thermal output is 500 MWt. Ownership is by RWE (40%), ENBW (32%) and MVV RHE (28%). DB Energie takes 100 MW for rail power.

Quick facts: In Oct 2005, EnBW tendered for a new coal-fired block to be built at RDK on the Rhine. In Dec 2007, the EnBW Board agreed to move the new coal project forward and final approvals were obtained in May 2008. In Sep 2008, the foundation stone was laid for RDK 8. This 912-MW, hard-coal fired USC unit went commercial on 23 Jun 2014.

Quick facts: Zolling was built by Isar-Amper Werke AG and the first 40-MW unit went online in 1958. Three more sets followed by 1966. The old untis were all demolished in 1989. The Unit-5 stack is 220m tall. This site was transferred to GDF SUEZ in 2009 as part of a swap deal with E.ON.
