Quick facts: The Armenian Cathedral of the Holy Cross is on the uninhabited island of Akdamar in Lake Van, the largest lake in Turkey. It was built ca 915-921 and served as the focal point of a monastic complex until around 1915. It is now a museum and cultural center. The PV installation includes 145 modules that supply an average energy yield of 25,000 kilowatt-hours per year. Solar electricity replaced power from a diesel generator.
