Quick facts: This grid-isolated DPP is at a remote mine site 330km from Ouagadougou. It uses heavy fuel trucked in from Benin and Togo. The Essakane mine produces around 365,000oz/yr of gold. To accommodate more hard rock, Essakane underwent a major expansion from 2012 to 2013. with a power plant extension, a new pre-crushing circuit and ore-handling system, along with a SAG mill, ball mill and leach tanks.

Quick facts: In Oct 2006, ContourGlobal signed a concession agreement with the Government of Togo, and in May 2007, a long-term PPA was secured with the national distribution company. In Jul 2008, the company was approved for $209mn in financing and political risk insurance from OPIC for what comprises the largest electricity investment ever made in Togo. Operations began in Oct 2010. IFC is a 20% investor in the project. The engines can be switched over to natural gas when available.
