Quick facts: In Feb 2005, Vietnam’s Infrastructure Development and Construction Corp (Licogi) broke ground on the 90-MW Bac Ha dam and hydroelectric project. In Feb 2006, Agribank said it would loan $53mn for the plant. This was the first HPP that Agribank fully financed. The $104mn project is on the Chay River and is expected to have an average output of 370 GWh/yr. The first unit went into operation in Jun 2012, about 3yrs past the original schedule.

Quick facts: This run-of-the-river HPP is in the Dum River Valley, a tributary of the Hong (Red) River, in Tong Xanh commune, Bat Xat district, about 300km northwest of Hanoi. The project went commercial in April 2016 and is operating under the Avoided Cost Tariff regime. Nexif led the development of the The project was initially developed by InfraCo Asia, a company of the Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG). It has a 25m tall gravity dam for peak period storage, a 5.6km HRT, and a surface powerhouse. In February 2016, Nexif Energy took a controlling interest in the project through the acquisition of a majority ownership of Viet Hydro Pte Ltd, the controlling shareholder in the project.

Quick facts: In Sep 2007, the final environmental report was approved for this HPP on the Nho Que River in Lung Pu, Son Vi, Khau Vai and Can Chu Phin communes, Meo Vac district. Construction started in Apr 2008 and, in Dec 2008, the equipment supply contract was signed. The units completed in Apr and Jun 2012, respectively, and connect to the grid at 220kV. Annual production is expected to be about 500 GWh. The total project cost was about VND 2,462bn.

Seo Chong Ho

Quick facts: This HPP is on Seo Chong Ho stream, a tributary of the Ngoi Bo River, in Ta Van and Ban Ho communes, Sa Pa district. The design contract was signed on 7 Nov 2007. The scheme has a 40.5m tall dam forming a 58ha reservoir, a 3.7km diversion tunnel, and then a 2.3km penstock. A 20km, single-circut 110kV tie-line was built to a transformer station on the Lao Cai-Phong Tho transmission line.
