Quick facts: In Mar 2005, EVN completed a feasibility study for this HPP on the Nam Mu tributary of the Song Da River in Than Uyen district, Lai Chau province, and Muong La district, Son La province. The VND 9.8tn scheme has a 99m tall dam, two 4.2km HRTs, and and the country's first underground powerhouse downstream in Son La. In Mar 2011, EVN signed an equipment supply contract with Hydrochina Zhongnan and Tianjin Alstom Hydro, Full construction started in Jan 2009 and completion was originally scheduled in 2012, but slipped about 3yrs. AFD made a $100mn non-sovereign, non-guaranteed government loan to EVN to support the project, the first such loan granted in Vietnam. Unit-1 commissioned on 31 Dec 2015. Annual plant production is expected to be about 1.9 TWh.

Quick facts: In Nov 2009, the National Assembly approved EVN’s 1,200-MW Lai Chau multipurpose HPP on the Da River, in Nam Hang commune, Muong Te district. The Prime Minister’s Office approved the project in Jun 2010 and, in Aug 2010, Vietcombank agreed a VND 14.5bn loan for the scheme while Vietnam Development Bank supplied VND 4.6bn of credits in May 2011. In Jan 2013, EVN awarded Tianjin Alstom Hydro and consortium partner, Hydrochina Zhongnan Engineering a €90mn+ contract for the T/G sets plus mechanical and electrical auxiliaries. Work got underway in Jan 2011 and river closure by the 137m tall RCC dam was in April 2012. Lai Chau was completed ahead of schedule on 20 Dec 2016 and became the third largest HPP in Vietnam. The VND 35.7tn project should supply about 4.7 TWh/yr.

Quick facts: The Nam Na 2 HPP is on the Nam Na River in Phin Ho commune, Sin Ho district, and Huoi Luong commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province. Annual net power production is estimated at 265 GWh. The FID was 4 Feb 2010 and the main EPC contract was signed on 8 Apr 2010.

Quick facts: In Dec 2009, Hung Hai Construction signed EPC contracts with Song Da 4 JSC and Hai Long Construction Co Ltd for this HPP on the Nam Na River in Chan Nua commune Sin Ho district, Lai Chau province. In Apr 2012, Hung Hai Group and BNP Paribas Bank, Tokyo branch, signed a NEXI ¥7.1bn term loan facility for the VND 2.5tn scheme. Three Kaplan T/G sets are installed and these should supply about 350 GWh/yr for the grid.
