Hydroelectric Plants in Norway - Nordland

Glomfjord
Location: Nordland
Operator: Statkraft SF
Configuration: 6 X 20 MW Pelton
Operation: 1920-1949
T/G supplier: Voith, ASEA, BBC
Quick facts: Development of Glomfjord began in 1912 when Glomfjord Aktieselskap applied for a license to develop the hydropower resources of Fykanvassdraget. The Norwegian government later acquired development rights and completed the plant ro upply 36 MW to Glomfjord Smelteverk AS. When the third machine was completed in 1922, this was the largest HPP in Norway and the 20-MW sets were reputed to be the largest in the world. Only one of the machines in the traditional brick building designed by architect Olaf Nordhagen is in regular operation due to reduced water supply after the nearby Svartisen hydro development was completed.
