Crevola Toce Rebuild

Quick facts: This is an important HPP in Crevola d'Ossola. From 2005 to 2011, Enel spent over €40mn to completely refurbish the facility. It uses water from the River Toce and supplies about 170 GWh/yr. The original plant opened in 1925 with a building designed by renowned architect Piero Portaluppi.

Quick facts: The original SHP Centrale Sessa Trona was built in on the Naviglio Langosco 1903 by Sessa Trona & C. The plant was sold to Societa Officine Energia Elettrica di Novara, which became Societa Ovest Ticino which was then absorbed into Societa Dinamo in the 1970s. The building became the center of an aquaculture business that closed in 1987. In Feb 1999 the abandoned struture, 8ac of land, and other facilities were bought for redevelopment by a new company Agricola Allevamento Pesce e Surgelazione. The hydropower works were rebuilt and renamed in 2006. The historic main building incorporates a new visitors center.

Quick facts: This plant uses the water from the Po tributary the Dora Riparia and is near Oulx. An intake canal sends the water into a 14km tunnel which carries it to the Val Clarea basin. From here, a 4km pressure tunnel and 1.3km underground penstock run to an underground powerhouse. One of the sets is equipped with a pump allowing recharge of the Val Clarea storage tank.
