Quick facts: This was the second stage of a hydro cascade on the Wujiang. The concrete hyperbolic arch dam is 168m tall. Work started in Nov 1984 and the project was fully commissioned in Dec 1995. In 2004/05, the generating equipment was overhauled and up-rated.

Quick facts: In July 2006, Huadian company Guizhou Qianyuan Power Development Corp ordered four 220-MW Francis turbines and ring gates from Tianjin Alstom Hydro for the Dongqing project in Zhenfeng County, Qiannan Buyi and Miao AP. Construction began in Nov 2006 and river closure was in Aug 2009. The Rmb 6,963mn plant was fully completed in Jun 2010 and connects to the 500kV grid.

Quick facts: In Nov 2003, construction started on the Goupitan plant on the Wujiang River in Yuqing County, Zunyi City. The Rmb 13.8bn plant delivers output to end users via the East-West transmission project. Unit-5 commissioned on 31 Jul 2009 and the last two sets went online at the end of Dec 2009.

Quick facts: This HPP is on the middle reaches of the Beipanjiang in Guanling Buyei & Miao AC, Anshun Prefecture. Preliminary work began in May 2003, the river was dammed in Oct 2004, NDRC approval was obtained in 2006, and all four units were in operation by Aug 2008. Final project completion was in May 2010 with a budget of 6,617mn yuan. In Jul 2004, Tianjin Alstom Hydro was awarded a €21mn contract for four generators and auxiliaries for the Guangzhao plant. The 200m tall RCC dam was built with fly ash admixtures sufficient to reduce the amount of cement required by 34%.

Shannipo

Quick facts: In Jun 2006, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the Shatuo power station on the middle reaches of the Wujiang in Sinan County, Tongren City. Excavation work was completed in Apr 2007 and full-scale construction got underway on the 122m dam, a large ship lock, and other infrastructure for the Rmb 7.4bn project. The final unit passed the 72-hour, continuous, full-load trial operation and was put into commercial operation on 13 Jun 2013. Annual production is expected to be 4,500 GWh.

Quick facts: In Dec 2005, work got underway on the Wujiang Silin HPP in Tongren Prefecture. In June 2005, VSHS won a €32mn contract for four, 270-MW Francis turbines for the plant. The dam concrete pour started in Nov 2006, water storage began in Mar 2009, and the four units went online from Apr to Dec 2009.

Quick facts: In Jan 2003, Alstom was awarded an order valued at €12mn by Guizhou Wujiang for three turbines for the Suofengying hydro plant in Qianxi County, Bijie City. The 6.1m turbines were manufactured in Tianjin on a 44mo delivery schedule and are installed on th right bank. The 116m tall RCC dam has a crest length of 165m. Construction started on 26 Jul 2002, river closure was on 18 Dec 2002, and the dam was completed on 3 May 2005.

Tianshengqiao-1

Quick facts: Tianshengqiao-1 has a 178m concrete-faced, rockfill dam and went into full operation in the year of 2000. The first full-year output was 5.1 TWh. Construction began in 1991 and its four shareholders invested Rmb 9bn in the project. Guangxi Investment Group holds 20% of its shares. The plant is connected to Guangzhou by the 1,800-MW, 960km bipolar Tianguang +/- 500kV DC line built by Siemens. The Tianshengqiao-2 hydro plant (6 X 220 MW) is 7km downstream, also in Anlong County.

Quick facts: This cocrete arch dam is 165m tall and 368, long. It was the tallest dam yet built by Chinese contractors. Units 4&5 completed in Dec 2003. The extension project cost 833mn yuan. In Jan 2003, Tianjin Alstom Hydro ws contracted to upgrade the original sets to 250 MW capacity.
