Quick facts: In Apr 2008, President Aliyev participated in the foundation stone ceremony for this HPP on the Yukhari-Mil irrigation canal in southwest Azerbaijan. A 2km, 110kV power line was installed to connect to the grid.

Mingechevir

Quick facts: The Mingechevir earth dam created a 605km² reservoir 70km long. Two irrigation canals originate from the reservoir, the 172km Upper Qarabag Channel and the 123km Upper Sirvan Channel which in combination irrigate some 1mn ha of land in Mil, Mugan and Sirvan. This was the one of the largest construction projects in the immediate post-War period in the Soviet Union with about 20,000 workers, including about 10,000 German POWs. The T/G sets have all been overhauled and/or replaced.

Quick facts: Construction of the Yenikend reservoir and HPP was sopped at about the halfway mark in 1984 due to lack of funds. The EBRD allocated a credit of $53.24mn ro re-start the project and it was completed in Dec 2000.
