Quick facts: In Mar 1997, US developer Oxbow International Power Corp and its partner Marubeni Corp completed the 54-MW Mount Apo Phase-1 BOT plant at Kidapawan. In Oct 1997, the partners won a competitive bid for a second essentially identical unit facility at the site. Each block has two single-flash turbines. Financing for the Mindanao projects was coordinated by CitiBank and include United Coconut Planters Bank, Union Bank of the Philippines, and Far East Bank and Trust. Marubeni later bought out Oxbow and EDC took over the project in Jun 2009, the last of the of the BOT plants turned over.

Northern Negros

Quick facts: In Feb 2005, Kanematsu Corp was awarded a turnkey contract by PNOC-EDC to build this geothermal plant near Mount Kanlaon. The Japanese firm was the only bidder on the project after the first bidding round on the project was nullified in the fall of 2004. JBIC was the principal financial backer for the plant making a $68.5mn concessional loan. The Northern Negros project was inaugurated in February 2007.
