Quick facts: Construction of the John Sevier CCGT plant began in April 2010 and commercial operation began on 30 Apr 2012, about 1mo ahead of schedule and $30mn under budget.. In Jan 2012, TVA raised $1bn by leasing the new plant to investors for 30yrs, thereby freeing up cash for other investment needs. The $820mn plant is adjacent to the coal-based John Sevier thermal plant. TVA will continue to operate the CCGT plant and take it over when the 30yr lease is up.

Quick facts: In Dec 2007, URS Corp and TVA entered an alliance agreement for gas turbine-based power plants throughtout the TVA system. The Lagoon Creek CC project was the first under the agreement. The new plant was declared commercial on 29 Sep 2012, the first CC plant in the state and the first TVA new-build to complete since 2002.
