In Aug 2013, SEP begins a long-term PPA with SCE.

Quick facts: The City of Pasadena’s power plant is located on a 14ac site in the southwestern portion of the city. The site consists of two groups of generating facilities bisected by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) Gold Line tracks: the Glenarm Plant to the west of the Gold Line and the Broadway Plant to the east. Glenarm GT 3&4 were ordered from GE on 11 Feb 2002. The CC project was approved in Jun 2014, ground-breaking was in Jul 2014, first fire was on 2 Apr 2016, and testing and commissioning began in May 2016. The new CC block went commercial on 19 Dec 2016. The block is said to have some of most stringent emission limits in the USA. The final project budget was $136.9mn.

Quick facts: In Aug 2002, Kiewit Power Constructors was awarded a $235mn design-build contract for repowering Haynes 3&4. This involved retiring the old sets and building a completely new 2+1 block. Project quantities included 16,700yd³ of structural concrete, 725t of structural steel, 61,000ft of large bore pipe, 35,000ft of small bore pipe, 179,550ft of electrical conduit, 707,000ft of electrical wire and 46,800 electrical terminations. The project was completed one month ahead of schedule on 25 Jan 2005 and represents a 94% emissions reduction as compared to the original steam electric Units 3&4.

This $350mn project was approved in May 2000 as one of the first major plants in Southern California in a decade. The site is the former George AFB in Victorville. Construction started 1 May 2001 and commercial operation was in Apr 2003. In Dec 2006, High Desert was one of six plants acquired by Tenaska from Constellation for $1.64bn.

Quick facts: In Mar 2000, PG&E's National Energy Group started construction on La Paloma in McKittrick, about 110mi northwest of Los Angeles. At the time, this was California's largest greenfield merchant power project. The plant in was completed in Mar 2003 and four months later, NEG declared bankruptcy. In Aug 2005, Complete Energy Holdings LLC acquired the plant and in Apr 2010, the facility was acquired by Rockland Capital. On 6 Dec 2016, Rockland Capital affiliate La Paloma Generating Co filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. NAES is the plant operator.

Long Beach Rebuild

Quick facts: This site in the Port of Long Beach has been used for power generation for about 100yrs. These four machines started life in 1976 as BBC GT11D models. Three were upgraded to D5s in the mid 1990s when the plant was still owned by Southern California Edison Co. The plant was mothballed in 2005, but four gas turbines were restarted in 2007 as fast-start peakers for a 10yr SCE contract. The fourth unit was upgraded to D5 in 2007.
