Quick facts: Rolls-Royce Power Ventures acquired a 50% share of an existing 4-MW cogeneration facility and with partner Bilkent Holding AS expanded the facility with a RB211 gas turbine, HRSG, and steam turbine installed by Foster Wheeler. Bilkent University purchases electricity and steam from the facility with the rest of the output sold to industrial companies and TEAS. RRPV sold its share to Bilkent in December 2002.

Quick facts: The Baymina project was originally developed by National Power, Bayindir, and Mimag. In Sep 2001, Tractebel acquired a controlling interest in the $500mn plant. Baymina has a 15yr PPA with TETAS and a gas supply contract with Botas. The new plant connected to the main 380kV grid and is just 3km away from the main gas pipeline to Ankara.

Quick facts: In Mar 2011, Gama received an EMRA license for a 420-MW CCGT in Hacilar district. In May 2012, a doubling in capacity was approved and construction got underway in Dec 2013. The previous month, Gama had secured a financing package for $600mn of the expected $900mn investment with a consortium of five Turkish banks. Mott MacDonald was appointed owner’s engineer in Jan 2014. The project also includes a 58km, 380kV transmission tie-line and a 13km dedicated gas pipeline spur. The project was synchronized on 6 May 2016 and annual production is anticipated to be about 6.3 TWh. About half the power is sent to Ankara, 75km northwest of the site. About 500m from the power plant is the Tupras Kirikkale Refinery.

Quick facts: The OMV Gas & Power Samsun plant is in Kozluk municipality, Terme district on the Turkish Black Sea coast. The project was approved by the Turkish Ministry of Environment on 16 Mar 2009 and construction started the following year. Operations began at the end of Jun 2013.

Quick facts: In Aug 2012, Cengiz Enerji submitted an EIA prepared by local consultants EN-CEV for a second CCGT extension to its power plant in Samsun. In Feb 2013, Siemens won the order for a single-shaft power island for the gas-only project. The total order volume, which includes a long-term service contract, was almost €300mn. The Siemens scope of supply also includes a generator, HRSG , the electrical system, the SPPA-T3000 control system, and auxiliary and ancillary systems. The block is reported to have a themal efficiency of 61%, the highest in Turkey, The project was built in 23mos and handed over on 15 Mar 2015, about 2mos ahead of schedule.
