The €400mn project was built at the site of an existing 80-MW coal-fired plant and connects to the grid though an existing 400kV substation. Ansaldo was awarded the EPC contract in Jul 2005.

Originally, both blocks were scheduled for 2006, but the first actually went online in 2008 and the second block was deferred. Gas is supplied from the Reganosa LNG terminal in nearby Mugardos.
