Quick facts: This is one of three 4.8-GW CCGT plants ordered from Siemens by the Government of Egypt in May 2014. In Jun 2015, a Siemens-Elsewedy JV signd a $2.2bn contract for the Beni Suef project, the first of the three megaprojects.The project is being funded by a consortium of 17 international banks with a Hermes-covered export credit agency (ECA) loan arranged by Deutsche Bank, HSBC and KfW IPEX-Bank. The first GTs began testing late in 2016 and Unit-42 went commercial on 18 Mar 2017 brin the toal number of GTs completed to four.

Quick facts: In Oct 2007, NREA signed a contract with Iberinco and Mitsui for the El-Kureimat integrated solar combined-cycle power plant (ISCC) project, one of the first of its kind. In Nov 2007, OCI a was awarded a $109mn contract for the solar island in partnership with contractor Flagsol. Fichtner Solar started working on the project in 2001 and was project construction manager. The ISCC plant is situated near the Upper Egypt EPC Kureimat power plant. The location is uninhabited, flat desert with high-intensity, direct solar radiation and proximity to the grid, gas pipelines, and sufficient water. The plant includes a a specially-designed HRSG and a solar collector field to supply up to 40-MW equivalent of additional steam for the steam turbine during daylight hours. The project was jointly financed from the World Bank's Global Environment Facility ($50mn), a $90mn ODA loan from the JBIC, and the Egyptian government, through a National Bank of Egypt loan. Construction began in Jan 2008.
