Quick facts: In Mar 2011, Ansaldo received the €245mn turnkey order for 6 October Phase-I. The site is on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road in Sheikh Zayed City on the outskirts of Cairo. The fast track schedule was 14.5mos. The work site was opened early in Apr 2011. Peak site employment was about 2,000 from Oct to Dec 2011 and, at completion, the customer presented Ansaldo with a certificate recognizing 7mn hours of work without an accident. The four gas turbines were synchronized with the grid for the first time from April 8-19 and the plant was completed in May with the energizing of the 66kV grid connection.

Quick facts: This was the first large-scale CCGT plant in Egypt. MHI received the order in Apr 2002. This was the first F-class GT installation in Egypt and also the first Hitachi steam set in the country.

Quick facts: The main plant order for the second Cairo North CCGT block was placed in Nov 2004 and is the launch installation of FA gas turbines in Egypt. In addition to the gas turbines, GE supplied two 360-MVA generators, controls, engineering services, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls balance of plant, steel structures, construction, technical services, spare parts, training, commissioning and start-up. The plant also has GE's first DCS in Egypt.

Quick facts: In Jan 2010, Engineering Consultants Group (ECG) submitted a final “Environmental and Social Impact Assessment” for the Giza North power station and interconnection projects. The otirignal two-block plan was extended with a third blockThe site was acquired by Cairo EPC in Jun 2009 along the EI-Beheiry Canal, 30km northwest of Cairo City. Gas will be delivered via a new, 25km pipeline spur connecting to the existing gas grid. Two double-circuit, 220kV lines are planned to evacuate the power. One will run about 15km to the existing 220kV, Cairo 500/Sadat transmission line and the second will run about 1km to an existing 220kV transmission line connecting the Bassous and Menouf 220kV substations.
