Mellach CC
Location: STM
Operator: Verbund Thermal Power GmbH & Co KG
Configuration: 2 X 419-MW, single-shaft CCGT blocks with SCC5-4000F gas turbines CHP
Fuel: natural gas
Operation: 2012
HRSG supplier: AEE
T/G supplier: Siemens
EPC: Siemens, Zorn & Nowy ZT GmbH, convex ZT GmbH, STRABAG-Porr
Quick facts: The Mellach CCGT project was officially handed-over on 22 Jun 2012, having started operations in May 2012. The thermal efficiency is reported at 59.2%, but with 400 MWt in district heating output, total efficiency is on the order of 80% making Mellach CC the largest and most efficient thermal power plant in Austria. To comply with local water usage restrictions, the plant features two different cooling systems: Unit-10 has a once-through system and Unit-20 has a cooling tower. The two transformers were manufactured and installed by the Siemens Transformers facility in Weiz.
