Quick facts: This modern power station was installed at the San Buenaventura sugar mill in Ixiamas province, La Paz dept. The power plant went online on 30 Oct 2015 at a ceremony attended by President Morales and other senior authorities. In addition to electricity, the plant will also supply 100,000l/yr of ethyl alcohol and 1,650 tpy of hydrolyzed bagasse. The power plant is a $174mn component of a regional development porject that has been in the works since 1971.

Quick facts: In Oct 2011, San Pedro Bio-Energy, co-developed by investment fund INCIA and Putney Capital Management, secured a concession for this power project using bagasse as the primary fuel with local biomass used as secondary fuel. Bagasse is sourced from the Cristobal Colon sugarcane plantation in San Pedro de Macois province. Construction began in Jul 2014 and the plant went online in Apr 2016. During the harvest season, the sugar mill will use about 10 MW with the rest of the capacity available for grid production. The $90mn project was financed by Banco Popular in syndication with Banco de Reservas and Banesco.
