Quick facts: This project was originally developed by RWE subsidiary Harpen Energie Contracting GmbH (HEC) at the site of a former coal mine 25km northeast of Dortmund. The plant cost 50mn. HEC has a long-term timber supply contract than 143,000 tpy with the Interwood GmbH, a group company of Pfleiderer AG, closed. The delivery of the directly adjacent wood treatment plant via a 300 m long conveyor belt.

Goch

Quick facts: This cogen plant was built by a JV of RWE (80%) and PBG GmbH-Projektgesellschaft Biomassefeuerung Goch (20%), a company in which food manufacturer Nähr-Engel and the Goch municipal utility each have a 50% stake. Heating capacity is 28 MW. Process steam is used by Nähr-Engel to prepare and dry over 100,000 tpy of fresh potatoes. Annual wood burn will be about 90,000t. The plant cost €33.6mn and went commercial on 31 Oct 2012. In Mar 2013, conglomerate Koehler Holding GmbH & Co KG bought out RWE.
