Quick facts: The first CHP unit at Celgar was a 2.5-MW steam set installed in 1963 and now out of service. In the 1990s, a 52-MW machine was installed and a 48-MW turbine is being added for operation in 2010. In Dec 2008, a Mercer long-term proposal to supply about 24 MW of bioenergy to BC Hydro was selected for negotiation. About 7 MW of electricity surplus to mill requirements is already sold to BC Hydro.

Quick facts: This PS in Mackenzie, in the northern interior of British Columbia, uses sawmill residues to supply about 230 GWh/yr for BC Hydro. The refurbished CFB boiler supplies 28,000 pph of steam for the new T/G set. Preliminary construction began in Aug 2012 and the plan commissioned in Apr 2015. Vancouver-based Conifex Timber Inc is a publicly-traded forest products company.

Quick Facts: Roddickton was Nefoundland's only biomass power plant and provided primary power to the communities of St Anthony, Main Brook and Roddickton. The plant became uneconomic when a new tie-line was connected to the region and was closed in Sep 1996. In Mar 2007, the site was acquired via long-term lease from Nalcor Energy by a local forest products company. It will be partially reused for a new pellet plant. Innoventé purchased the generating equipment and is relocating it to St-Patrice-de-Beaurivage, QC.

Quick Facts: Senneterre in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region was originaly developed by Indeck Energy Services and implemented by Boralex Power Income Fund. Fuel burn is about 400,000 tpy and about 230 GWH/yr is sold to Hydro-Quebec. The project cost C$60mn and is in intermittent operation due to fuel-supply issues.
